What’s remembered as bohemian glamour reads more like psychological unraveling. Nearly every relationship is triangulated — lovers compared, staged against one another, used as proof of Nin’s desirability. Intimacy becomes performance; adoration gets mistaken for love. No one comes off well. Indulgent but fascinating, and I think ultimately just sad because it’s clear (to me, at least) just how much childhood trauma drives her.
