Spent so much time looking things up and chasing rabbit holes because the characters (Cromwell, duh, of course, but also Wolsey, the Boleyns, Thomas More) and events are so dang fascinating. Historical fiction can work on both levels - but send me to the Tower, draw and quarter me (please), off with my head, etc. - this didn’t do it for me as a novel.
